Difficulties Working From Home

It can be difficult, with the distractions of family at home, and the loss of a sense of structure and belonging.

For many people it is their first time working from home, others like us however are more seasoned, so thought we would offer some tips from years of experience.

Building a Dedicated Work Space

Creating a dedicated space in which to work is essential if you want to get things done. Having enough space and minimal distractions from the outside work will allow you to work comfortably and focus on the task.

Invest in your home setup and follow YouTube videos detailing office ergonomics to make sure you minimize the risk of body aches and pain. Many companies will be prepared to help with the costs if they can see that productivity will improve.

Structure Your Day

If you don’t plan and structure your day the lines between work and personal time can get blurred. While the flexibility that working from home provides can be a huge benefit, it is important to set yourself clear targets and deadlines during the day.

Follow your normal sleep and work patterns if you can and when your workday stops, stop working. Shut down, stop checking emails and focus on your home life. And at the end of the day, try to get to bed at your usual time. Sleep and rest are extremely important in staying productive.

Keeping Motivated at home

Without direct access to your manager and people around you it can sometimes be difficult to motivate yourself to stay on track, and can often feel like the work is unappreciated and you are undervalued.


We find that proactively engaging with your manager and team members in virtual meetings or dial-in discussions can help ward off these negative feelings and promote a more positive attitude. Make sure that others understand what you are working on and what you have delivered.

If you are struggling, ask for help as soon as possible, remember you are less visible at home.

Encourage the people around you

Remember to celebrate success of the team and at individual level. Encouraging the people around you will not only boost the mood of the team, but people will appreciate the fact that their hard work is not going unnoticed.
